Second Day of the Workshop, FAH UIN Jakarta Encourages the Use of AI for High-Quality Scientific Publications
Bogor, FAH Online News – The Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, continued its Workshop on Enhancing Faculty Publications in National and International Journals on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at The Green Peak Hotel, Bogor. On its second day, the workshop focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support scholarly article writing and the implementation of Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs).
The event featured Muhammad Okky Ibrohim, S.Mat., M.Kom., Ph.D., a lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Indonesia, as the speaker, with Lutfiana Dwi Rakhmawati, S.Pd., M.A., serving as moderator. In his presentation, Okky explained how various AI tools can support the research and scholarly writing process, from literature searches, article comprehension, and reference management to outlining manuscripts and editing academic language. The tools introduced included Semantic Scholar, Elicit, Consensus, SciSpace, ChatGPT, and the reference management applications Zotero and Mendeley.
Okky emphasized that AI can improve the efficiency of the research process but cannot replace researchers’ critical thinking skills or academic responsibility. All information, quotations, and references used must be verified against their original sources. He also highlighted the need for caution when using AI in humanities and Islamic studies, particularly in ensuring the accuracy of Qur’anic quotations and the context of the sources being consulted.
In addition to scholarly article writing, participants gained an understanding of how Systematic Literature Reviews (SLRs) can be used to map research developments, identify patterns in findings, and discover research gaps. This process requires a systematic series of steps, beginning with the formulation of research questions, followed by literature searching and selection, data extraction, and the synthesis of findings. The use of AI throughout this process must be accompanied by transparent documentation, data verification, and adherence to academic ethics.
Throughout the workshop, participants showed great enthusiasm in following the presentations and engaging in discussions about the use of AI in research and scholarly writing. The various tools introduced provided lecturers with practical insights into optimizing technology to meet their research needs while understanding the limitations and risks associated with its use. The discussions also offered participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of source validity, methodological rigor, and integrity in producing scholarly publications.
Through this initiative, FAH UIN Jakarta hopes to strengthen lecturers’ ability to use technology responsibly to improve the quality and productivity of scholarly publications. This effort forms part of the faculty’s broader commitment to fostering a strong research culture, ensuring that its publications not only meet academic performance targets but also make meaningful contributions to the advancement of knowledge and society.
