Ramadan, the month of soul enlightenment: Momentum to form Muttaqin people

South Tangerang, FAH Online News – Ramadhan 1447 H is back to bring glory to Muslims. Apart from being the month the Koran was revealed and the night of Lailatul Qadar, Ramadan is an important momentum for mental strengthening and spiritual purification. In the Mutiara Ramadhan program held by the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Jakarta, Thursday (26/02/2026), Dr. Zakiya Darojat, MA emphasized that Ramadan is a means of achieving the level of muttaqin humans, where fasting is not just about enduring hunger and thirst, but rather a process of purifying the soul as well as inner enlightenment.

In his presentation, he revealed that there are four main characteristics of someone who experiences mental enlightenment during Ramadan. First, sense of intensity, namely the depth of feeling in living life and worship, so that every charity is carried out with full awareness and gratitude. Second, feeling of clarity, namely the ability to understand the meaning and wisdom behind every life event, including awareness of the purpose of creating humans as servants and caliphs on earth.

Furthermore, the third characteristic of sense of unity and connectedness is the feeling of connection with God, oneself, fellow humans, and the natural environment which gives birth to empathy and compassion. Lastly, the feeling of surrender, namely the ability to surrender beautifully to God's decree after making maximum efforts, without getting caught up in excessive anxiety (overthing).

“Hopefully this Ramadan will truly make our souls enlightened, so that they can become the Shari'a for the holy month of Ramadan, namely laállakum tattaquun,” he said.

Furthermore, as a practical step in caring for enlightenment of the soul, he suggested three main things, namely maintaining peace of mind (calm), finding meaning in every event (clarity), and cultivating empathy and concern for others (compassion).

In closing, he invited Ramadan to be a month of spiritual mental training whose impact can be felt throughout the year. Through this momentum, it is hoped that people will not only hope to obtain rewards, but will also be able to transform into individuals who spread peace, compassion and benefits to the surrounding environment.
