The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., CIQnR, who emphasized the importance of understanding AI development comprehensively—not only from a technical perspective but also from epistemological and human values perspectives.
“Today we are discussing how AI development should be addressed, not only technically but also epistemologically. Often, value-based aspects that should serve as benchmarks are overlooked. Moving forward, discussions on information development and digital literacy must continue to be explored and developed,” he stated.
The Dean also expressed his commitment to expanding synergy between universities and state institutions, including opening internship opportunities for students within the DPR RI.
In his remarks, Head of Delegation Bramantyo Suwondo expressed appreciation to FAH UIN Jakarta for the warm welcome and the space for dialogue provided to parliament.
“We strive to bring parliament closer to the people, as DPR members are elected by the public. Therefore, we seek input from academia, particularly in the fields of technology, education, and history, as consideration in formulating future national policies,” he said.
The discussion began with presentations from each speaker. Prof. Dr. Jajat Burhanudin highlighted the strategic role of youth in the historical formation of ASEAN socio-cultural networks and Islamic civilization in Southeast Asia. According to him, youth have historically been drivers of socio-political change; therefore, strengthening digital resilience and responding to AI developments must be supported by progressive, open, tolerant, and inclusive young generations.
Next, Prof. Usep Abdul Matin presented on the role of the FAH UIN Jakarta academic community within ASEAN. He emphasized that the role of FAH students as Muslim youth in ASEAN must be realized through the implementation of the tridharma of higher education: education, research, community service, and international cooperation, as well as academic contributions in strengthening international networks.
Meanwhile, Maria Ulfa, M.A., M.Hum., emphasized the importance of synergy between parliament and academia in building young Indonesian leadership ready to face future challenges in ASEAN. She highlighted the need to strengthen critical digital literacy, ethical AI governance, youth involvement in policymaking processes, and sustainable collaboration between campuses and parliament through research, policy forums, and youth leadership incubation programs as strategic steps to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the ASEAN youth agenda.
Responding to these presentations, Habib Aboe Bakar Alhabsyi, S.E., stated that input and recommendations from FAH’s academic community would become important materials to be brought into upcoming ASEAN forums. He emphasized that academic contributions from universities are crucial in strengthening Indonesia’s position in formulating youth agendas, digital transformation, and AI governance at the regional level.
At the same occasion, Surya Utama, S.I.P., also known as Uya Kuya, highlighted the dangers of AI misuse in spreading hoaxes and slander in digital spaces. He emphasized that technology-based disinformation can massively influence public opinion and even mobilize crowds, leading to real-world impacts, such as his personal experience of his house being looted due to misleading news circulating in society.
During the discussion session, several strategic issues were also highlighted, including the Artificial Intelligence Working Committee (Panja AI), the dynamics of international organizations, and the development of the Palestinian independence issue in global forums.
The discussion became increasingly dynamic with the enthusiasm of lecturers and students who actively conveyed various perspectives, critiques, and recommendations regarding artificial intelligence, digital resilience, and the role of youth in future technology governance.
Through this activity, FAH UIN Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment to continue serving as an active academic forum in responding to technological developments in a critical, humane, and value-based manner in order to support inclusive and sustainable national policymaking.
