Confused about determining the place of internship? English Literature Study Program MBKM Socialization Degree
South Tangerang, FAH News Online – English Literature Study Program Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held an independent MBKM (Magang Merdeka Belajar Merdeka Campus) outreach. This socialization was held at the Abdul Ghani Theater on the 5th floor of the FAH Building on Tuesday (16/12/2025), this activity was attended by 5th semester students as prospective interns.
This socialization aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms, requirements and implementation flow of MBKM Mandiri, especially in the internship scheme.
The activity was opened by Dr. Agus Suriadi M.Hum is a lecturer and secretary of the English literature study program, while the main presentation was delivered by Inayatul Chusna M.Hum as chairman of the English Literature study program.
In his presentation, the Head of the Study Program conveyed the important role of the MBKM curriculum in providing opportunities for students to learn and gain practical experience through internship activities outside campus. This is in line with the provisions contained in the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Regulation Number 3 of 2020 and the Decree of the Chancellor of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Number 1321 of 2021. To take part in the MBKM program and convert credits, there are a number of requirements that students must fulfill, including the implementation of an internship which can start from January to June with a mandatory duration of 4–6 months. In addition, students are required to choose two elective courses so that the accumulated study load in even semesters reaches 20 credits. As an administrative requirement, students are also required to prepare a proposal for internship activities which is then submitted to the Dean of the Faculty.
The presentation session then proceeded with an explanation of the selection of apprentice partners who should have strong relevance to linguistic or literary competence, as well as avoiding types of work of a purely administrative nature. The Study Program strongly encourages students to apply to the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) because the institution provides an ecosystem that supports the development of essential field research capabilities for Literature students.
Inayatul Chusna emphasized that, “We strongly recommend going to BRIN because there students are trained to do field research directly.” Additionally, Dr. Agus Suryadi added that other internship partner options, such as ministries and the private sector, remain open as long as students are able to adapt internship assignments and activities to relevant scientific fields.
The activity session closed with discussions and questions and answers which took place in a relaxed and interactive manner between the academic community and students, and ended with documentation activities. Through this outreach, English literature students are required to be able to find a middle way in choosing internship activities so that they are relevant to the study program curriculum, so that they are expected to be able to bridge theoretical and practical skills in the field and foster competitiveness that is adaptive to current industry needs.
